What is earned value management in construction?

EVM is a method for measuring project performance by comparing the value of work actually completed against your planned budget and actual cost. It tells you whether you are over or under budget and ahead or behind schedule at any point in the project — not just at month-end.

What is CPI and why does it matter?

CPI is the Cost Performance Index — the ratio of earned value to actual cost. A CPI above 1.0 means you are earning more value than you are spending. A CPI of 1.16 means for every KES spent you are earning KES 1.16 of completed work. Lobocon calculates this automatically from your BOQ progress.

Does Lobocon work without a project schedule?

Yes. Cost performance metrics — CPI, EV, AC, VAC, EAC — all calculate from BOQ progress alone. Schedule metrics like SPI unlock when you connect the Scheduling module, but you get full cost visibility from day one.

How often does CPI update?

Every time a BOQ progress entry is recorded on site. If your foreman logs concrete work at 8am, your CPI reflects that by 8:01am. There is no batch calculation or overnight job.

Can we share EVM data with clients?

Yes. You can grant clients a read-only dashboard that shows overall earned value, percentage complete, and forecast at completion without exposing your internal cost breakdown. Most firms find this replaces the monthly progress meeting entirely.
